With The Office leaving Netflix for a, apparently, crappy streaming service I think the entertainment companies need this reminder.

I pirated a LOT of content for a number of years. Originally I was big into DVDs, and had a personal library of more than 400 movie titles and more than 70 tv series on dvd.

I started to move away from DVDs when they started including unskippable commercials. For fuck sakes, I just paid for the movie, and they force me to sit through commercials? That's what got me into piracy. I do believe in paying content creators, but I don't believe in being treated like a sucker.

I started to get out of piracy back when Netflix started streaming. They offer a good service at a decent price, and like I said, I'm happy to pay a decent price. Of course not everything was available online, but I still bought dvds and blu-rays (as long as I researched them first and they didn't have unskippable commercials).

Now I hardly ever pirate. However with the way things are going with all the different competing streaming services all trying to lock their content up in exclusive contracts and such, it appears I might have to dust off my cutlass and Jolly Roger flag.
