Woman tries to avoid being pulled over by removing her plates. Turns out she has had a suspended license for 5 years but forgot about it.

If there is a bus. One of the horrible truths is that at a certain level of poverty living becomes more expensive.

For instance when I see toilet paper on for half price I can load up on a few months' supply. When I take money out of the bank and can't find my branch then I can take out many hundreds of dollars (thus reducing the fees to a much smaller percentage than if I took out 20). I can spend a huge amount learning new skills.

I live in an area with close good grocery stores. I live in an area with many types of banks. I live very near my job. I have excellent health insurance.

But for many people they have to live far from their jobs, away from public transport, are murdered if they need to use the health system. The food available in many neighbourhoods is crap (google: food desert). The jobs crappy. The schools crap. And the police trigger happy (not just with their guns but with their ticket books as well)

So while I know very little about this woman I can guess that she has a crap job, a crap education, has eaten crap her whole life, and lives in a crap neighbourhood.

Presuming that she lost her licence because of fees/fines and not bad driving, I would say that the only offence that she is really committing is the lack of insurance. That is the one that impacts society (see what I did there). The rest are just bureaucratic torments that do society no good. For instance what benefit does it serve to have to register your car every year or so?

Let's assume for a minute that you have downloaded something illegally in the last year. This is a very serious crime, something like $250,000 plus possible jail for each offence. So now look at your life if the FBI come into your house and hand you a few "tickets" for $250,000 each. Then when you don't pay them (assuming you don't have that kind of cash) they will take your house, your car, and maybe ban you from using computers. Plus let's assume that after all that seizing that the fines late fees are now growing what you owe at a rate greater than your income. Have a nice life. The pat answer is that you shouldn't have downloaded something illegal.
