Woman with Down's syndrome loses abortion law appeal

There are some people born with Downs who are essentially a potato with a face. You can’t seriously force that onto people.

It's an interesting question, on one hand as unfavourably as it probably reflects on me as a human being I think I'd likely be a poor father to such a child and would much rather not have to give up my whole life for the benefit of someone too severely handicapped to have a meaningful relationship with, but the arguments against this position would be 'well that's the risk you take when you have children so you shouldn't have kids at all with that attitude' or 'if you're incapable of raising a severely handicapped child you should put them up for adoption instead of aborting' and honestly while I instinctively oppose both arguments I'm not sure I'm on particularly solid ground in terms of ethical philosophy here - I'm not sure my arguments against them would be particularly convincing.

Don't get me wrong politically I'm entirely pro-choice and believe the state has no business whatsoever interfering in what's fundamentally a personal and nuanced medical and ethical choice whose 'right answer' will depend massively on the people and circumstances involved. My uneasyness is with how I would behave in that situation, not what I think anyone else should do.
