Women in Mobile - Moving Us Forward One App at a Time

Interesting post. I agree with the basic premise that men and women can learn from each other, but I think the angle of approach is a bit problematic. Specifically:

I still think women are under represented in the tech industry which is pretty sad for the 21st century.

I'm always confused (and I mean that sincerely) when this kind of sentiment is voiced by someone who otherwise believes men and women are different. You say women tend to be more empathetic, for instance. If so, shouldn't it make sense why they'd gravitate away from tech? If I'm good at empathizing, why would I sit in front of a computer coding all day when I could be connecting with human beings?

There are certainly positions in tech companies where exceptional soft skills are important, but the majority I've held just haven't been that way (as much as I personally like interacting with people). Integrate these systems. Program a recursive descent parser. Figure out why this modal crashes the app. It's of course important that I empathize with my boss and coworkers, but not important enough that it matters whether I have the superior empathy that you say women have. Basic human decency is fine.

For my own two cents, I think the bigger reason for this concern is our cultural fear of being the odd one out. But oddness can be beautiful and important. I think it would be a shame to lose that by trying to tamper with the numbers.
