Women of Reddit, outside of appearance, what are some boxes you need to check when on a first date?

Do they like animals/pets? -- It's rare but I've met people who literally hate animals before. I grew up in a house full of pets and they are very important to me so I could never be compatible with someone who wasn't interested in them. As a side note, my mom always taught me to judge a person's character by how my animals reacted to them. If my cat hisses at you and won't let you touch her, or if my dog growls at you, I won't let you touch me!

What is your stance on religion? -- this is done very casually and may be more of a second date kind of thing, but I don't want to get my hopes up by going out for long with a guy who is super-churchy. I live in the Ozarks and some of the folks around here are just excessively religious. I don't want to spend my only days off per week at church, especially because I'm not Christian. I don't mind if they want to go to church for holidays, but I don't want to feel forced to participate if I don't want to. I also don't want to be lectured on Jesus constantly, or expected to fake it for their family. At the same time, I don't want someone anti-religion because I am religious and like to bring little bits of it to my traditions, and would love to share that with an SO if they were interested.
