Women who have been to couples therapy: Why did you go and did it actually mend or help your relationship?

My husband and I are in couples therapy. Our therapist is AMAZING, yes it has helped a ton and we definitely would not still be together if we didn't have the support we do.

I would say it comes down to the quality of the therapist, and the ability of both parties to be 100% committed to working on the issues in the relationship, and to be willing to take a shitload self-responsibility, which isn't exactly a strength in this day and age.

I know for my husband and I, there is no way we could have tackled these issues alone, Lord knows we tried.

We are still a work in progress. I must say that individual therapy is just as important as couples, so my husband and I each have regular individual visits, and then once a month or so we have a session as a couple.

As long as both parties are committed to working on themselves and the relationship, a difficult relationship can actually be a huge gift because it can teach you a lot about yourself, your issues, your wounds, your triggers...

I say go for it! Good luck!
