I work in a toxicology lab testing for drug use. I've been there for ten years and never once reported a positive THC result.

Doesn't sound out of the realm of possibility. Biology related lab tech positions are brutal.
My second job out of college was making a sweet 15/hr, work there for 3-5 years you got a huge bump to 17/hr in a supervisory role. Really prove yourself there for a few more years and you can move to the research department making 18/hr. Still at the bottom though, another 3-5 and a lot of luck a QA position will open!
After all of that your still a lil bitch because the senior employees and occasionally the research management handles all of the special/priority samples. (This was the National Marrow Donor Program)

A lot of these positions are glorified assembly line roles with a slight biology relation. I work in chemical r&d now.
