World chess champion Magnus Carlsen quits game after just one move amid cheating controversy

hoo boy, downvote time for me!

So I am not a chess person (just making that clear before you read on), but the more I've been reading up on this the more it seems like Carlsen is fabricating this entire cheating accusation to cover up from a bad bout of sore losing. Keep in mind this guy has a reputation for not taking losses well (look up losses against Karjakin in 2017 and Ivanchuk in 2015). Yet I repeatedly hear statements all over reddit condemning Niemann as 100% definitely cheating in this high profile, high visibility match with the only evidence being a history of online cheating which (I'm sorry for everyone projecting their last salty loss in their competitive game of choice) isn't evidence of cheating in this match, the chief arbiter even put out a statement that they have seen no indication of foul play. I am not a chess person but I am a games person, and I've played my fair share of competitive games, enough to know that when you accuse someone of cheating, you do it for two reasons.

  1. You have evidence to suggest they are cheating.
  2. You do not have evidence to suggest they are cheating and you are mad at them.

So my point here is this, if Carlsen has evidence that Niemann cheated, then why the silence? What's with the whole "Oh I can't say, but I'll imply it" thing? In my opinion it's obvious, he doesn't have evidence and is now throwing his clout around with protests trying to drum up suspicion.

That's just my opinion though, I am not saying he didn't cheat I don't have proof just evidence to suggest that it was a clean match. Maybe I'm missing something here, I'm sure a chess person will yell it at me. :)

Regardless, I think it's a poor show on Carlsen's front even if there is evidence of cheating you don't handle it like that.
