That is a really good point, the whole diminishing marginal returns and all that. I think that is valid. But there could be other factors. For example, one big thing that influences how much people get into sport is popularity. So the model might not be like a square root graph, it might be the case that teams with lots of resources have already got a following and so it makes it easier for them to bring people in when they get a little more. There could be a sort of economies of scale thing going on.

There is a moral argument to be made though for developing countries. But we need to really think of that because we can't just give money to teams we might feel are underrated but all teams that are developing in the name of being fair... but that means possibly giving money away that won't see much of a return at all. To teams like indonesia for example. Which might not be responsible for the game.

As I say, I think we all want the game to grow but it's responsible to know what we would be giving away. That seems to be tricky to tell though.
