Is it worth it for a new player to start playing and potentially get invested in the game?

im playing for the first time and i am fucking blown away by how good the storyline is and how immersive the world is.

for me though, it takes playing with a secondary computer until you figure it all out.

but i find that it's just because i've gotten so used to 'show me where to go' games. im finding that this game really encourages you to interact with whoever's there and they will lead you to the right path, real person or NPC. it encourages you to look at things very intelligently and not so 'go to X point / Y point'

im blown away by how they managed to put a 'story' behind 'go here and kill 30 creatures'. normally MMOs just say go there and kill 30 creatures. not spoiling it, but seriously, even for something so minor, they figured out a captivating way to draw you in.

i think all the obstacles and struggle i faced going into this game ultimately made me want to learn and love it more, and maybe it's the placebo effect but this game feels truly infinite and i've also realized it's about 500x more active than you would think it would be.

background: srs console gamer in my teen years, modest pc gamer, modest mmo player (never really played one for more than a few months that i liked). i can picture coming back to FFXI months or years down the line, because it's just a very inviting and 'seriously, take your time, do what you want, take it all in'..... they have revamped everything so that you can blaze the hell right through everything it's so amazing
