Why would I (24f) get asked to freeze an embryo when my partner (30m) has cancer?

First of all, sorry for what your partner and you are going through. I might speak to a reproductive specialist or even a lawyer before doing this. The comment above mine is not correct. They would combine the sperm and egg together now. Since you are relatively young and not married, this seems like a pretty big step. I think they like to do this because embryos are a little heartier than sperm or eggs on their own. That said, I think the technology exists to freeze your partner’s sperm alone without involving you now and achieve the same result later down the road if/when you’re ready to pursue a pregnancy together. If you create embryos now and split up somewhere down the line, I would fear it could get tricky. Google Sofia Vergara’s embryo case.
