Would you actually prefer the U.S. to be isolationist and keep to itself?

No, not isolationist but I think that a serious change is due in the USA leadership and a few thousand high-ranking officers that were in office in the previous 50 years should be jailed for life for crimes against humanity. Ideally also fining all media that supported them to near-bankruptcy. But that's just me being very vindictive.

And we all known that it won't happen. Weapons will still be sold to murder civilians by the millions. Terrorist organizations will still be funded. Unprovoked wars will still be started that devastate countries for decades. Democratically elected leaders will still be overthrown. Murderous regimes will still be defended (you think Obama didn't bend backwards for the Saudis?). And at the same time the mask of "good guys" will still be put on and bullshit about freedom, liberty and morals will be spread.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not against the USA as a country or its people. I just fucking loathe its politics and especially the fake pretense of being "the good guys". And I don't think Trump is a new development out of the blue, he's just the most obvious symptom (as of now) who openly fails to condemn the murder of a journalist, openly sells arms which contribute to a genocide, openly vilifies immigrants and cages children and openly justifies all this with money. The previous ones were smarter and just silently took the money without boasting.

What would I like the USA to do? Take leadership position in fighting climate change, preserving nature and developing clean technology then give it to the people who need it the most. No, not for free, that's not how it works - but instead of installing a military base and selling weapons for billions, the USA could still maintain relevancy by offering loans and selling technology to LatAm, African and some Asian countries - technology which provides safe drinking water, medicine, education and food security. But that's just me being idealist.
