Would you ever serve for your country? Why not?

My dad spent four years in the military, and like a lot of other people came away with a certain love-hate relationship with it. What he's told me is that if we were truly in danger of being invaded by a foreign power, he'd be very proud of me if I enlisted in the military or cooperated with a draft. Otherwise, he wouldn't be.

Given my occupation and skill set, I probably wouldn't be permitted to in such a situation, and would more likely be shunted to an industrial support role. It's very much the same reason why I'm still working during the pandemic, because nobody in their right mind would want me to stop doing my job, particularly right now.
