Would you still play Magic if every card would be 1$ max?

Android: Netrunner is great, and I have been playing it moreso then Magic this past year.

The Draft format is marred by a few different things. One, it only appeals to subsection of an already small community, so getting the right numbers out to an event is difficult. Two, the entire LCG distribution model is marketed towards folks wanting to pay minimally to get a known amount of cards on more of a subscription basis. The LCG players usually play different board games, different LCGs made by FFG included, and some still play casual Magic. Paying for the draft packs when you know you can buy X "data packs" or a core set of a different game is a tough sell to its core demographic. So the draft is usually closer to a prerelease of a set, where you get to see cards not seen prior, get physical copies beforehand. And there is hype about being able to try out new cards from the upcoming Sansan cycle, in addition to recreating a limited format that some people did ask for.

Anyway, in the end, while I am a huge fan of ANR, and this season of Store Championships (the equivalent to the lower to mid attendances seen at Preliminary ProTour Qualifiers at best) has been incredible. I personally am curious as how big it can get. Yes, playing for playmats/alternate art cards made by FFG is awesome, but quite frankly, there will be no equivalent to the "grinders", and "professionals" seen in Magic, as the prizes will always be capped. There will doubtfully ever be an SCG Open series for Netrunner, but then again, that is part of its draw. Unfortunately, it also means that when the first rotation happens two years from now, if/how an eternal format develops is completely up in the air. While the Game of Thrones game was rebooted, and was widely welcomed, it does potentially give underperforming/needlessly complicated LCGs a shelf life that Magic has been able to avoid. In the end, Fantasy Flight is pushing forward with a judge program, is pushing forward with a long term plan with its rotation system announced. In the end, I will have a well stocked, known collection of cards, that will just end up being a complicated cube/set to bust out ANR if it does become less popular in 5+ years.
