I'm from Canada so may be that is why there is a disconnect and I'm also older than you so that influences that too. Also I'm not passionate about Bangladesh but I strongly identify with my actual roots; I don't seek representation from adjacent cultures.

There is no such thing as "collective accomplishments" and you don't need them to identify with your roots. But there are well known Americans with roots in Bangladesh (Fahim Saleh, Salman Khan of Khan Academy, Fazlur Rahman Khan etc.). You don't know about them because you're focusing on mainstream media and political representation, which Indians just got.

Regarding the current status of Bangladeshi Americans: there was once a time when Italian Americans were a disliked immigrant community with no recognition but look at them now. They are a staple of American society and their influences are everywhere.

These things take a lot of time.
