Culturally California, Texas, and Oregon are much closer to each other than any other states. From all the politically rhetoric you wouldn't think so but if you have lived all over each state it is really obvious. It can be best said that California and Oregon are culturally purple states that lean blue while Texas has become a purple state that has had the entire concept of "southern heritage" cause it to end up in the red.

Anyway... whenever I hear idiots compare California or Oregon's culture to New York... I just die inside a little more because it couldn't be further from the truth. You would think New Yorker's lack of a western drawl would cause people to take a closer look. Or that New York doesn't have ranchers, any significant agriculture, and doesn't have famously weird cities like Austin/Portland/SanFrancisco.
