[WP] everyone’s sense of smell disappears and the day after this happens a mist floats from the sky and the news tells them it’s allegedly the greatest smell in existence and everyone loses their mind trying to find a way to get their sense of smell back.

Beth Skye was at the meeting last. Before her sat her coworker Richard Simmons, CEO of NDD News Ed Rudolph, and corporate lawyer James Brown.

"Ahahaha!" laughed Ed. It seemed there was a joke being told by Rich.

"What's so funny?" questioned Beth as she strode to her seat. In one move, she had her case open and her notes by her.

Ed could barely keep his laughter in. "Oh, nothing, nothing, it's just Rich was telling me something great. Get this, a guy in Idaho got told by 'God' himself that to get his smell back, he had to kill the first guy he met. And before you ask, yes it specified guy. So the first person he sees is obviously his wife, right? So he goes 'nuh uh it has to be a guy.' And guess who the next person he sees is?" Beth said nothing. "It's his son! Aaaahahahaha!"

"Jesus Christ..." went Beth.

Rich piped up. "I know right! Like, what was he thinking?"

"No-"

More laughs from Rich and Ed.

Beth had had enough. "This is ridiculous and despicable. You're laughing at a guy killing his son?"

Ed: "It's not serious. It's just some schmuck who lives in the middle of nowhere. We're scot free!"

Beth: "We were the ones that started this whole charade! The mist isn't the greatest smell in existence - there isn't even any mist! No one has lost their smell, all you did was just report it and people started believing they lost their smell! Like, how is that even possible?"

Rich: "In this day and age? Anything is possible, it's 2054. We may have lost half our land to nukes and rising water levels, but dammit if we aren't good at lying."

Beth: "We have to come clean to them, guys. People are dying over this mist-smell scam. You have my back, James?"

James: "...M-me? I-I'm just here to make sure were in the clear legally."

Beth: "And?"

James: "Uh, yeah I guess so. Technically. I mean-"

Ed: "This scam is also doubling our profits, Beth. And while it does so it's going to continue."
