[WP] "If your dog won't eat it there's something wrong with it" none of the dogs are drinking the water.

The dogs knew it before we did. It started with neighbors complaining to one another that they couldn't get their dog to drink. The vet's were swamped with calls, but not even the best and brightest could understand why the animals simply refused to drink water. At first they could be coaxed into drinking bottled water, but after some time they stopped taking even that.

That's when people started to get sick. There were hundreds of reports of people 's skin turning ashy and vomiting uncontrollably, and the number grew everyday. Soon the first patients started dying. Their organs had become so diluted with water that they dissolved and broke apart inside them. It started with the stomach, and after it ruptured, stomach acid would spill into the abdominal cavity causing other organs to fail until the patient died in great pain, unable to eat or breath as their lungs deteriorated.

It was soon discovered that water was the cause, as it was the only similarity between every patient, though doctors could find nothing wrong in any water sample. People were advised to avoid all taps, and instead drink only water that had been bottled prior to the symptoms of patient zero. It didn't take long before that was in short supply and the world fell into chaos. Riots broke out in every major city and the worlds military forces were quickly overwhelmed by panicked people, being too short of number from the sickness themselves to hold a resistance.

After a couple months the world was silent. Animals of all types had mostly died out, and the vast majority of people were now dead. Only the plants thrived. The small population of people that remained found that they could survive off the water in the vegetables that they grew. So they grew tomatoes, and celery, and anything else that could hold a lot of water.

For a time, life seemed as though it could make a come back, as people nourished the few animals left with their crops, and they began to form small colonies. People began to smile again, and in some colonies new songs were composed and they sang beside small bonfires at night while they feasted on their harvest.

But high in the mountains the snow was beginning to melt after a long winter. The waters filled the rivers and flowed into every valley. The plants along the river drank eagerly as they woke up to a new spring. And in the middle of May, the first tree began to wilt.
