The first time you time travel can be a jarring experience. From the implications of time travel itself to the sensory overload that happens when you make the jump. The years of training and guidance by my superior couldn't have prepared me for that introductory experience of the one that came hundreds of jumps later. The first time you jump, spacetime takes on a fish eye appearance and your hearing begins to fade but in a way that sounds a lot like drowning. No-one knows for sure how long you spend in the fade between times, but it feels like an eternity and an instance all at once. when you come out the other side there is a low distinct pop that could easily go unnoticed to the uninitiated, but spending so much time in the fade makes it sound like a hundred drums. Because jumping is so disorienting a rather peculiar game has popped up amongst the time police. I've never been very concerned with the ethics of it, because jumping to hundreds of timelines makes it difficult to just keep yourself intact. I don't know for sure who first came up with it, or even allowed resources to be used for such asinine games, but every time cop has or will have killed hitler. Time seems to run together so it's difficult to make such distinctions.

Because time jumps are so disorienting it has made this particular game very dangerous. With our advanced weaponry and knowledge you would think that it would be a simple task but the germans aren't our only enemy. People who fail the game or will fail the game are enemies of the universal continuum and are dealt with accordingly. The protocol of the game is that every jumper marks the timeline with a unique ID at the insertion time. If anything goes wrong the timeline for that starting point and the players death/dismemberment/loss of equipment are spliced from existence and left to drift in the fade. I don't know the specifics of how all this works, if i did i probably wouldn't be a fuckin cop.

This is the story of the time killed and or will kill hitler; but before i get to that i should explain a couple more rules first. There are two separate scoreboards that are the same. I don't know, i think they make them out of tesseracts or something. Anyways the ways to the top of the scoreboard are to either jump extremely close in time and vicinity to hitler and hope the time sickness wears off in time for you to complete the task or you go farther back and take time to assimilate. Somehow the top scores will have all been within either 1 day or 1 week, but my genius idea was to go back even farther.
