(D=Driver, H=hitchhiker)
D: "That's a big suitcase you have, headed anywhere special?"
H: "No..."
D: "Any radio preference?"
H: shrugs and peers out the window awkwardly
( the driver selects a random channel)
( Sympathy for the Devil by The Rolling Stones plays)
D: "Not very vocal are you?" "I know people like you, you are probably often mistaken for being rude, but my little brother was the same way. Always very quiet, so im used to filling in the silence."
H: "i just take a while to warm up to people. Thank you for picking me up though. Thought i was fucked for a while there."
D: grins "Dont fucking swear in my fucking car."
H: Ok...
D: "im just having laugh there chap, don't worry ya self"
H: "Can't say i was worried" "i've met plenty like you"
D: "How do you mean?"
H: "Overcompensator. Because im being quiet you feel you have to talk for the both of us, but whats wrong with a little silence?" switches off the radio and peers in to the drivers eyes
D: "Something wrong?" "The fuck are you doing?"
H: "Looking for fear"
D: "Right..." face starts glowing red, the perpetual grin fades into a sombre, hollow, emotionless stare onto the open road
H: "Ah, there it is."
D: "i'll tell you one thing, whilst your intuitions have been more than astute in the past few minutes, there is one thing you are wrong about. Im not scared. I know what you are though."
H: "...what?"
D: begins to slow down and bare right down a country road, it's narrow and winding, not enough space for two cars reaches the end of the road
There is a small group of trees sporadically laid out among a vibrant and flourishing meadow. A dirt track about as wide as a quadbike is laid along the right hand side of the meadow.
H: "This is a nice place. But you still haven't told me what i am."
D: * The driver glares at the hitchhiker with a puzzled fury*
D: with a hoarse, aggressive, whisper "I THINK... you should tell me."
H: " i think I'll poke the hornets nest a little while longer"
