It all started when they came. I don't want to call them aliens - you probably wouldn't either - because they look just like us. Many of them appeared at random, but according to Sarah, her people transported here via a gateway of some sorts. She took me to it, it's blue, electric blue with six grey stones that form a triangle. And when we watched it one night the people would just puff up out of nowhere, do a twirl and then dash away super speedy like a super hero.
I asked her to explain. She simply winked and told me not to worry because they had plans for us. I was intrigued and so I asked her to stay with me, at least until the plans unfold.
The news came next. People disappearing at night and nobody knew why. I would, well I was close to finding out. I've been watching her and learning about 'them'.
I found their weakness. Sarah doesn't want to admit it but she nearly died the other night and the only reason she's still alive is because of me. She at-
"Monica, what are you doing?" Sarah asked from my bedroom door.
I glanced up, mid-sentence. "Just filling out my diary, why?"
She inched over, eyes squinted in suspicion. "Let me look then."
I closed the book and held it to my chest. "It's private, Sarah."
"Private?"
"That means its for my eyes and my eyes only," I replied.
She stopped in front of me, gazing at the front cover.
"Sarah, what are you doing?" Her hands shot out clawing at me. "Sarah! Stop! You're hurt-"
I felt a hard fist smash into my cheek.
Stars shot across my vision, my head hurt really bad, I think I smacked it on the corner of my bedroom wall.
When I looked up Sarah was reading my diary entry. Her brow creased further as her eyes stumbled along each word.
I pulled it out from under my bedroom desk.
She turned to me, eyes red and in an obvious rage.
I sprayed the Raid in her direction.
She stumbled backward, tripping over my bedroom fan and hitting the floor, convulsing.
"Why Sarah. . . Why. . ." I whispered, rubbing at my now painful cheek. I still didn't know what they were here or what they intended to do with us. But I knew their weakness, I was the only one that did.
I intended to find out the rest.
