"You're too short to play baseball," the JV coach told me. I'll let you keep score on the bench, but thats about it.

I cried so many tears that night trying to decide what to do. In the end I wanted to quit, but the voice inside my head told me no. Go to practice, prove yourself, and get to the point where youre the starting second baseman on the team.

The next morning I woke up with determination. For the next two months at practice I was the first one there, and the last one to leave. I worked relentlessly on my defense, hit the weight room to bulk up, and made sure the coach noticed.

Two weeks into the season, I was sitting on the bench, keeping score, when the starting second baseman made his third error of the game. The coach, obviously pissed off, looked over at me and yelled, "Get a glove kid, youre going in."

I was obviously ecstatic, yet hid my emotions well. I grabbed my glove, went out there and played flawless defense. The next game, I saw my name on the starting lineup card in the dugout. My goal was reached. The coach made an announcement to the team that he was wrong about me, and that you should never judge anyone by their height. I stood up, to the applause of my teammates, and told the coach I quit the team. I saw a confused look on his face as I gathered my things and left the field. I would never play another baseball game, only the occasional game of catch.
