[WP] In the year 2116, grammar nazis are no longer a joke. People are rounded up and put into camps for using incorrect grammar, as well as mispronouncing words. You, a news anchor have made a terrible mistake and are now in a camp. Tell the story of how you got there.

(my first ever WP submission so sorry if it sucks lol)

"And that's why they say, when it comes to driving, you REALLY need to focus."

Those were the last words I spoke before I was snatched up from my home for splitting infinitives. Ever since the second American civil war, the US government was overthrown and a new group of conglomerates rose to power. The Grammer Nazis. The Grammer Nazis, or the GNs, are a collection of overly sensitive internet trolls who find joy in pouncing on someone's way of using text in our digital space. Trying to control that that is uncontrollable; till now. The GNs took their beliefs to the real world, using extremist ideals and terror to sway the minds of the people. Eventually, they had an army that stretched from sea to sea and the entire world was forced to use proper grammer for fear of being sent to their "Connotation Camps." Did I end up here because of my own ignorance or because someone set me up? My name is Stu Study, and I used to be the news anchor for DNFX news, here's my story.

Let us rewind to the year 2110. I was just a simple make up artist working for DNFX news in his early 20s trying to make it in the industry. Fourty hour weeks, living pay check to pay check, and single. I was stuck and not to mention the bottom of the totum pole at my job. Hank Allstir was the current news anchor and man he had a temper. Nothing you do for him was done correctly, especially his make up. Everyday he would be snug with me, insult my work and articulation, threaten my job and even get a little personal by calling me names. I despised this man and envied what he did for a living. He was the Joker to my Batman, The Darth Vader to my Skywalker, some would say the Brian Fantana to my Ron Burgundy.

In this day and age, news anchors are looked up to by the people because they must have perfect pronunciation, a firm grasp on grammer, and amazing articulation; desirable traits according to the norm of society, and it was my dream to one day sit in that golden thrown and show the entire nation my skills. But how was I to get there? By screwing over Hank Allstir.

I spent the next few months plotting my scheme to be the new news anchor for DNFX news. After countless days and nights, the plan was complete, and all I needed to do was execute.

  • 5 pm my shift ends

  • I would then hide in the makeup room (which is only used once a day) until the broadcast was over and all the other staff left the building.

  • I acquired the security codes by dusting the number pad and shineing a light over it to see what buttons have been pressed.

  • I then made my way to the teleprompter, which is always prompted (no pun intended) the night before.

  • Sabotage.

The next night Hank Allstir spoke the sweetest words I have ever heard. After reviewing a story on paranoid meth users Hank said "who was that man running from?" All of a sudden Hank clamed up and couldn't speak a word. Yes! "What's the matter, cat got your tongue?" I spoke to myself quietly. Not 20 minutes later Hank is being dragged out of the building by the Grammer Nazis. Thank screams, "No! I was set up, don't take me to the Connotation Camps!" 6 years in Connotation camp was the sentence and a snarky smile breezes across my face. It's my time to shine.

I IMEDIATLY head to my bosses office and tell him I would like to be considered for the position. Since he was in desperate need of a temporary anchor he told me that if I could articulation my words properly I could fill in while they found a new anchor. I killed the audition and the DNFX news audience loved me. I kept the ratings up so they kept me on as head anchor.

6 years later, I found myself in the same position as Hank Allstir and I can't help but think someone helped put me here. I also got a 6 year sentence, so in 2122 when I'm free, I am going to get my revenge.
