[WP] You and your crew have been selected for a 1500yr Cryo Sleep journey to a possible first encounter. You enter your pod and the cryo sleep process starts, you never lose consciousness. After hundreds of years of mental torture in a frozen body, your psyche begins to evolve.

One by one, people were secured in a pod with their name on it. My last name was towards the beginning of the alphabet, so I was one of the first few processed. Don't ask me what my last name is; I couldn't tell you. I barely remember the definition of non compos mentis.

English is the current class.

It didn't take me long to realise what had happened. Just before each got into their respective pod, they were given an injection. Usually it was in their upper arm (posterior brachial region, deltoid muscle) but some would ask for it in their thigh (anterior femoral region, vastus lateralis muscle). Either way, I was given no such option. I couldn't alert anyone to this, either. My mouth wouldn't move; my voice wouldn't work. I was completely frozen and forced to deal with what I got myself into.

Nearly 900 years alone can do strange things to a person's mind. The Sociology class said that socialization makes it possible for us to fully function as human beings. Whether that's true or not, I don't know. I'd have to ask whenever Nova decides to talk to me again. They always seem to give me their company the moment passes when I need them the most.

I tried to sleep. To daydream. To follow along with class. To play "I Spy". To catch the clock every time it hit the top of the hour. To do anything that would keep myself occupied. By the time I got to know myself and who I wanted to be, and by the time I came to terms with past grudges and formed new ones, year 50 had already passed. 50 years seems like a long time, but not when it's only 3.33% of the total prison sentence. 3.33%? 3.3%? Just 3%?

It depends on how many significant figures are asked for. Did you not listen to the lesson?

I did. Approximately 3.14 times.

A math pun, right now?

Better than 288 times. That'd be two gross.

I'm leaving.

Nova gave me someone to talk to. We didn't actually talk, frozen and whatnot, but by now they convinced me that we were telepathically linked upon being sealed away. Who was I to argue when I could barely remember anything.

Abandoned. Not sealed away. Don't try to sugar coat it to make yourself feel better. They left us with no intention of coming back.

My memory has become worse as time passes. It's likely due to the fact that I'm not supposed to be conscious, but that's been stated. It has, hasn't it? Regardless, I don't remember much. What I do remember, I repeat to myself as often as possible.

Your name is Kai. You are 22 years old (should that be kept constant since your body is frozen even though your mind is not?). You have a mama at home who loves you. You have a friend name Nova who keeps you company whenever they want to. You have class when Nova isn't around. You are floating through space with the intention to meet other species. You can't move, but one day you will. When you're released you will find anyone who helped run this project (should they have journied along with you) and make sure they understand, to the full extent, what you went through. Finally, you will look for your mama; you never were able to see if she got a letter.
