Write an alternate-history of your world. Tell us how things could have turned out differently if a certain tiny incident in its history went left instead of right.

In the year 3227, the Venneran planetary republic was overthrown by an isolationist military organization known as the "National Combine", which recalled all Venneran ships, closed its borders and cut the republic off from the sector. This left Human civilization in disarray as for decades Vennera had been an important figure in interplanetary politics and especially, trade.

The coup d'état threw the Saquenay Rho -sector into chaos as suddenly an economic vacuum was created, where the bustling industries of Vennera had once been. Trade lanes, now void of Venneran protection, fell prey to piracy. Governments that relied on Vennera for certain trade goods had to turn elsewhere and all too many resorted to acquiring these resources by force, leading to numerous wars between different planets. Had the National Combine failed, the Venneran republic would likely have grown into an alliance or federation of worlds. They had the economic and military strength to maintain such an organization, not to mention the trust of most other governments in the sector. The Vennerans also prided themselves on being corruption free and despite numerous attempts, the cartels had failed to infiltrate the higher echelons of Venneran administration.

There would still be conflict, however. It would be highly likely that a cold war would exist between the Venneran 'federation' and the Free Triumvirate, a power which would have risen regardless of the National Combine's coup. The two powers would probably be at odds, although they might also combine forces to combat a larger threat which looms on the horizon. Indeed the future of Saquenay Rho might look a lot less bleak, if Vennera remained a significant power in the sector. As it stands now, the Free Triumvirate is without allies and the other governments scoff at the very notion of forming a coalition.
