writing to politicians

Here is my letter. It will be slightly amended based on who Im sending it to, but feel free to critique before I send it... Also feel free to steal parts:

"Dear Congressman Balderson,

I am writing to voice my concern regarding the future of a federal program that has been greatly affected by the current pandemic. The Peace Corps have temporarily suspended their operations worldwide for the first time in its rich history, and this has presented adversity to thousands of Americans - most notably in the form of unemployment. I ask that you please do everything in your power to keep funding for Peace Corps present as our nation overcomes this situation.

As soon as conditions permit, we (staff, Volunteers, and Trainees) are extremely eager to resume our major commitment as we had originally planned. Though I trust it was the correct decision, we were evacuate worldwide under extremely short notice. This has left thousands largely without jobs, clear direction, and even housing in some cases. While funding has already been allocated for this fiscal year, I ask that you please avoid voting for cuts of any kind to the program which the livelihood of thousands depend on.

The Peace Corps, founded in 1961 under the direction of John F. Kennedy and his vision for supporting strong international relationships, has a long history of non-partisan work. This program has helped hundreds of thousands of Americans develop skills and network to support fulfilling life-long careers. It is certainly among the best of comparable programs present in many of the world’s leading nations.

The funding only accounts for a small fraction (less than 0.1%) of overall federal budget, though this has been sufficient as it is driven by volunteer service. Please do not make a decision that would harm this incredible organization.

Thank you for your time, M_____________ Evacuated Peace Corps Trainee"
