(x-post from /r/news) US funding for Great Lakes cleanup could be slashed by 97%, leaked document shows

The EPA is useless.

Here

We need real laws and real punishment for corporations that fuck shit up.

Putting my faith in a government agency is about as good as putting my faith in a God.

The common denominator here is that government is not on the side of the environment, it's on the side of business.

If we want real change, we need to address the elephant in the room. And it's not you or I. It's the Government.

It's not "Cousin Daryl" up in the UP dumping motor oil on his property. It's BP fucking legally" dumping thousands of gallons of shit into *OUR Great Lakes.

How about a simple law that says "you cannot put anything into the Great Lakes"?

But the EPA is the pioneer of "allowing" for "specific" amounts of pollution.

I don't think we need to pick a side. I think it's clear as hell. We need a simple law that protects the land. Not a government agency, not pitchforks and torches. But just a simple law that says "You cannot dump into the Great Lakes"

The EPA is not for that. So fuck the EPA.
