[XCOM 2]

Oh no. There is something worse. Dodge. Fucking Dodge. A stat that, outside of explosions, gremlin abilities, and psionics, was something you could not influence or play around.

Dodge is a static value for some units where no matter your aim, no matter the cover, no matter the critical hit chance, allowed a unit to be Grazed and take a fraction of damage weapon. No amount of Aim boosts or debuffz the enemy is under changed it. If an alien unit, like Archon, had a 40% dodge stat, there is (was) fuckall you could do about it. Sharpshooter with a 100% shot doing 12-13 damage to OHKO it? Nah RNG says you Grazed it for 5. Oh well, just follow up with your Grenadier to deal 10 and oh look it also Grazed for 5. Archon now crits you on its turn lol. You can take all of the precautions and use every turn to its highest payoff and Dodge will more than once make you want to uninstall. And you aren't ever informed of the chance a unit has to Dodge. You'll need to look it up online. It's not even listed in the preview screen showing all things influencing your Aim and Crit chance.

Spoilers for the expansion

Which is why a Ranger with the Katana and every sword skill is on every mission I send out, since the weapon never misses and bypasses the dodge mechanic entirely. And also you can turn that bs stat back on aliens by doing faction missions that increases a soldier's base Dodge stat (which is 0).
