xPaw sums it up perfectly

You've got your already established fanbase, sure, but getting new customers besides word of mouth is kind of hard on Steam. Steam's discovery system is absolutely shit. That isn't to say you cannot find a diamond in the rough there, but it is more akin to wading through shit to find a few chunks of coal and the occasional diamond. Meanwhile Epic doesn't really have all that many games right now, discovery isn't a problem at all. Hopefully they don't go overboard with indie-titles that aren't worth their salt, but we will see. Epic could end up just being the next Uplay. I've got games I actually want to play on Uplay that I simply refuse to download because the launcher is fucking garbage. At least EA's Origin is mostly competent, and GoG Galaxy strikes the perfect balance of staying the fuck out of the way, while still being there to be useful in game.
