No. the church comes off as mean when it comes to homosexuality only because the true Church is telling the truth about homosexuality to a bunch of wicked people that don't want to hear the truth. Would you give the truth to the wicked who do not want to hear the truth and do not want anyone to bother them about their sin, they get mad. This is exactly what the Bible tells us to expect. it's why the people of Jesus is day one of the killing. It is why the people that Paul and the other apostles preach to at times wanted to kill them.

the Bible clearly describes a very real war going on. The Bible is very clear when it says that every person on the face of the earth who is not truly born again as a child of the devil. That person is controlled by the devil. That person is controlled by the power of sin. That person likes it that way. this is what we all were before we are born again. This is why man does deserve to go to hell. This is why a person must first come to true repentance before they can be born again. There's got to come a place in a person's life where he no longer wants to continue in sin. that only comes from the Holy Ghost
every person that is truly born again as a child of God. Nobody el. And there are more children of the devil then there are children of God. That doesn't really matter in the long run, because the children of God have God standing with them.

people sync that Christians are mean when they tell them the truth about the sin of homosexuality because those people want to continue to commit sexual sin weather homosexuality or the scent of having sex with someone you're not married to or masturbation or ponography or fill in the blank with any other kind of sexual imorality a person can be involved with. They want a loving God that accepts homosexuals and then and there soon. They get mad when a true Christian tell them the truth about homosexuality and other sexual sins because they want to continue in their sin without anybody bothering them at all.
Children of the devil vs the children of God. I can list many scriptures that prove this. The first picture that's coming to mind is this one 2 Corinthians 2:14-16 NIV

For we are to God the pleasing aroma of Christ among those who are being saved and those who are perishing. To the one we are an aroma that brings death; to the other, an aroma that brings life. And who is equal to such a task?
To a repentant person that wants to be right with God the gospel is the aroma of life.
To a person who is wicked and wants to stay wicked and does not want you tell me what's wrong with them, the gospel is the stench of death. It's meant to be that way.
It'll either bring a man to repentance or or it will be a witness against them at the judgment seat.
