I agree that many many many docs and nurses are clueless about the lab. I actually joined because I worked in a medical lab for a few years and it's crazy not only how much they don't know, but how much they don't know that they don't know. A lot of them just ignore the concept of a medical lab completely and don't even think to take that initiative and learn what a manual diff is, what an ELISA is vs a PCR and why you might want to order either one based on the setting, what the fuck happens to glucose when you send it in a lithium tube, and so on and so fourth. My med school has given us more exposure to chiropractors than lab people. And they don't even know they're neglecting a huge part of medicine
