As it stands now, we pay for their life-saving procedures anyway. Its part of why the prices are jacked up. They can't turn you away for inability to pay for life-saving procedures, that are an immediate threat to your life. We also pay for all the people going in with symptoms (that turn out to be fine) but don't pay. We also pay for all the people that get lawyers and find a way to get a payday from the hospital (and for that matter, private businesses).

Part of the reason they get paid nothing, is because they have chosen to shop exclusively at establishments that are slightly cheaper than anyone else. The race to the bottom, and short-sighted consumer has, and continues to cut their own pay... and ship their jobs overseas to save a buck.
