Yorgos Lanthimos' Dogtooth (2009) and Satire That Doesn't Spoon-Feed

I loved this film when I first saw it, but I was always confused about the scene where one of the daughters was in the living room at night looking at a TV screen that wasn't displaying anything, and then she heard the father coming down and she immediately took the VHS tape out and tries to hide it before being confronted by him. was this her attempt to get a glimpse at the outside world that she's forbidden to view, or am I misinterpreting something? regardless, awesome film to say the least. if you enjoyed it, I highly recommend The Killing of the Sacred Deer(same director). I also recommend The War Zone and Miss Violence(both are somewhat similar to Dogtooth, but I should warn you that they're way more disturbing)
