I glanced at the thread not really a deepdive. From what I take away the proffesor in question grew up in a period way harsher than the one his student is currently facing. The professors are just trying to figure out how harder. Becuase yes that does give him a right to be a dick. If a this was the 1960 and a teacher who survived the holocause didnt want a kid who was shot at the Kent state firings to receive a pass becuase the brutality of their suffering is warranted. He might be in his right.

Now this professor might jsut be a dick or he might be trying based f his expreinces to make the students life better. Like I said its a complex situation. Dont just hand out A's because of war. But then again my background is from a 3rd world country that has experienced conflict so that my complexity.
