YouGov | Public backs plans to make firms release foreign worker numbers

Businesses don't just have a responsibility to make a profit.

There is also an expectation they benefit the area they are based. As some big businesses apparently don't pay the tax they should... a bare minimum of providing locals with jobs doesn't seem that extreme.

I wouldn't mind but the Left are the ones who have constantly go on about quotas on who you should and shouldn't employ. Since when has corporate transparency been a bad thing?

I would hope other business owners don't just act out of self-interest. Looking through history, importing cheap labour has always been profitable and unsustainable (eg. slavery), I find it bizarre so many on the left wholeheartedly support the commodification of labour.

As a business owner, when I have the sales, I see it as my responsibility to try to train and hire locals. Otherwise I may as well just go to London or the US.

I am biased though, localism (sell global, invest local or 'think global, act local') is a big part of my business philosophy.

Sorry got a bit rambly, I just think this policy is defensible.
