Do you think young gays need to do know more about gay icons like Judy Garland and Liza Minnelli?

Its' more interesting I think to know why some guys at particular times, liked these people.

But just to see either of these women, or Barbara Streisand (who a friend of mine was a big fan of) in a show or movie does't really mean much to me, just in and of itself.

Something's missing.

I don't see how their kinda lived experience can springboard off their diving board and land in my pool.

I'm not Jewish. I go to the kosher deli to buy pickled herrings, but that's not enough of a shared experience, y'know?

I'm not from New York.

I don't ordinarily wear sequins and sing.

I did go to see Eartha Kitt once or twice, and because we were at the front, we had a chat with her while she sat down between sets, and she told us a little about her life. She was a very interesting person. She basically lived on stage; it was all she knew and her musings about life were worth hearing. So I guess anything is possible. But that was based on one-to-one.
