Young people that aren't interested in property, what are you saving for?

I am saving so that I have enough to run my own business. Most of my money are actually in shares or investments instead of just savings because I enjoy seeing my money multiplying. I also have a little bit more risk appetite than most people.

I have already invested a little bit in my friend's business and their business is booming at the moment. They are doing so well that people are inquiring about the franchise (first store in Australia). That made me even more firm about my decision to run my own business, albeit in a completely different industry.

My aim is to have a business here that can run smoothly without too much of my input so that I can have a steady passive income. It doesn't even have to make a lot of money. I will then use the income to try and start another business in my home country, as labour are significantly cheaper and I have a lot of connections there with most of my friends running their own business or taking over family business.

I mean I am totally aware of the fact that it might completely fail and I could be bankrupt, but that is still from my point of view significantly better than "get a steady job, get a house, get a wife and have kids, and retire financially secure". I appreciate people who enjoys that lifestyle, but it's just not meant for me.
