In your experience, are french people in the service industry (waiters, etc.) as rude to the English as they say? or is that just an exaggerated negative stereotype?

It’s not a fair representation because 90% of the time the service in France (in my experience) has been as good as anywhere else. There are occasions however when it really does seem as though a dislike towards the British (well, probably English in particular) has come through. To be clear, I wholly sympathise if that’s in reaction to an English tourist demanding to speak English or generally being obnoxious or something. However I speak fairly ok French - and have gone into places and used this and still been given the cold shoulder, having responses in monosyllabic French, while people from other European nations were greeted warmly in perfect English right next nearby. It’s not often, so it shouldn’t be the stereotype, but it does go on in my experience.
