Your Feelings

1). I am not sure that they are common themes. The topic really doesn’t come up much in real life.

2) I do not think abuse is any more or less common than in any other organization. Abuse happens every where. It is possibly somewhat higher among conservative hierarchical groups in general, but those include half the world population. I agree that the rates in mainline Mormonism are probably lower than groups like Catholics or JWs as another poster said.

3) For the main Mormon Church abuse is probably no more common than anywhere else. Some of the small splinter groups do have higher rates of abuse (FLDS).

4) major changes. Too many to put into a single post. The community is great but the top leadership has issues. Essentially more transparency and checks and balances. More room for a spectrum of beliefs. More emphasis on moral reasoning and less on “follow the leaders.” Higher quality Sunday lessons. Less sexism and homophobia. More emphasis on a loving God and Jesus.
