Your story!

It was last year when I was asleep and suddenly I felt something was rushing upward from my stomach, my heart was racing, my right arm slightly shaking and I felt immense panic (I remained fully conscious though). It lasted for some twenty five seconds. The same thing happened again after a week but this time lasted only for five seconds and involved only slight twitches in my right foot. Saw three neurologists who were rather perplexed and didn't know if those episodes could be called seizures (My EEG was fine).

Went to a fourth one and she initially categorized them as focal seizures and put me on Lamotrigine 25mg once a day. Never had a seizure since then except the occasional brain activity I felt for few seconds when I would lie down after having been really sleep deprived.

However, some two months back, I started to get horrible palpitations while I would be asleep. My doctor put me on Lamotrigine 50 mg now (25 mg + 25 mg) and with that, palpitations became occasional. However since last two days, I would again get horrible palpitations while I was asleep and always woke up panicked.

This time I have been given same dose of Lamotrigine 50 mg along with Inderal (propranolol) 10 mg + 10mg. I still feel panic for a few minutes while I am asleep but I no longer get those palpitations. My doctor now thinks its TLE whose symptoms include panic attacks.

Since all my attacks have occured only when I am asleep, I spend a pretty good life. I don't feel hampered in any way nor dependent on anyone. I drive, I cook, I study etc. Once I realised what it was, my seizures never scared me but palpitations can be awful. Thank God I have gotten over them

More power to everyone who is suffering from this condition.

PS: I would love to know if someone shares a similar story. All of my neurologists felt I was a pretty rare case which none of them had ever come across before.
