"You're depression is rubbing off on me." Fucking sorry you're the only person I can feel something around and I'm sorry i'm such a burden on everyone.

Not sure why I'm writing this, but if it helps...

It's very, very awkward to have friends when you have severe depression. You'll have a few kinds, from my experience:

  • The Friends Before Being Depressed

These are the friends you have from when there was still a modicum of hope in your mind that 'things work out in life' and that everything happens 'for a reason'. These friends have a high tendency to remove themselves as soon as you 'inconvenience' them. In fact, it's depressing in and of itself how fast old friends can vanish on you when you let on you're miserable, mostly because it reminds them that they may be miserable, too.

  • The Friends When You Start Treatment

These are the friends you meet when you first start seeing a therapist, and your brain is a mess. The therapist says, 'get yourself out there and meet people', so you end up in a coffee shop that has the world's worst open-mic nights, sitting with a couple that has somehow reconciled veganism and Satanism. Their Christmas party has excellent catering.

  • The 'Trying New Things' Friends

You put yourself out there even more, but the anti-anxiety pills your doctor gives you numbs your decision-making a bit. This convinces you that hanging out in that strange commune near your college is a great idea-- until you realize that a lot of these new friends are very unpleasant when sober.

  • The Online Friends

The best of the bunch; you don't even have to get dressed. Sure, you'll never leave the house, but you won't get in a car accident, either. Win-win.
