Youtube gets called out on their 1.8M dislikes

No one has the money to come up with a competitor. DailyMotion was on a good trajectory in 2015-2016 but shot theirself in the foot plastering the site with sketchy ads. Twitch had their chance in 2017 but put in zero effort to expand their site as a video platform. Vimeo, I don't know what the fuck they're doing besides just hosting artsy-fartsy content.

If AWS technology gets cheap enough, or decentralized video manages to pull itself together, then maybe an alternate site will become a reality in 5 or 10 years.

It might also help if one of the Russian sites like RuTube could develop a serious platform to compete with YouTube as that's the best opportunity to avoid the Content ID bullshit that's hurt a lot of small channels. If Putin wants to control Western social media, there you go, he can just pour a few billion into that site and leave YouTube in the dust.
