YSK: Bunpro's Lifetime sub sale started! It's basically WK for grammar and I love it.

Note before reading my reply : While I do use bunpro, and am currently just starting on their N2 stuff, I am terrible at using any SRS on a daily basis, so some things might not be apparent to me that someone who is really strict about following the schedule might notice

I would just like to write a bit of a counter on this. While I don’t fully disagree with your listed points, I do want to make some counter points to this. I do myself not use the service as much as I maybe should, but that is because through the years of studying various languages, no SRS service manages to keep me enticed and coming back everyday, it’s just not how I most comfortably study, I prefer textbooks, look-ups and immersion.

I find that the workload you will get going through bunpro is far from as bad as you are saying, and is perfectly customizable. I am a fan of their ghost reviews, as it keeps showing (I think until three times correct IIRC) the specific sentence I got wrong, while also keeping the SRS timings for the entire grammar point separately, I think it’s a lovely idea, but if you make a lot of mistakes things can indeed compound, but then you can lower or disable the entire thing, so I don’t think that should take points away from their SRS system.

As to your point about their grammar explanations. This was very much the case before their (still ongoing) re-writes, and they are expounding on and improving them at (in my eyes) quite a phenomenal pace. Still, I would never use one singular source for their grammar explanations (though the Dictionaries of Japanese Grammar are often times enough as a single source), and they themselves provide a plethora of links on where else you can find this specific grammar explanation on other websites and the like for extra reading, so I find that point in itself also quite unfair in my eyes.

Is the resource perfect? Definitely not, but then again, no resource I’ve encountered as of yet truly is. It is damn good at what it does though, I prefer it a lot over other resources, from what I’ve seen, though I myself don’t engage with the staff or forums (as can be seen from my account I rarely post on anything), they are very responsive, listen to a lot of feedback, and from all services I’ve used (which is WAY too many, RIP my wallet…), they implement the most improvements at a steady, continuous pace. I don’t think the sale price is all that much for what you’re getting in return, if I compare it to what I’ve spent on textbooks, other services or tutors I would consider it very fairly priced even. But I do get that the service might not be for everybody, especially if you are already deeply entrenched in Anki or the like.

Mandatory : My apologies for any badly written stuff, English is my third language and I very rarely write in it.
