YSK that its illegal for a restaurant to make a server pay for a dine and dash

I had a manager/owner who kept fucking up the checkouts at a place I worked. He wasn't stealing, he just couldn't figure out the new POS. When staff did it before, it went fine. He was just a control freak but incompetent.

Also he had not used this POS before and most of us had in other jobs.

I started recording all my sales and tips and reprinting everything and could prove he was fucking up my checkout and other peoples by not entering anywhere from 10 to 20% of the tips. Showed him this and told him with proof he'd cost me hundreds just in the first few weeks of having the system.

He tried to play it like there's gonna be hiccups in any new system and I reminded him that I didn't want management handling tips from the get go, that I can't just laugh off a few hundred bucks like that.

He then took me from five to two shifts as of the next schedule. I called him up and just said I wasn't coming in anymore.
