YSK that its illegal for a restaurant to make a server pay for a dine and dash

I can name a number of industries where not giving 2 weeks would be very bad for your reputation. And not neccesarily in a justified way, just because people are petty as hell sometimes.

Restaurant and service industries are big on this. Super markets too. Again, this is not across the board.

Dont stay in a bad environment. Leave if you need to. But if you can give notice, do it. Its not a bad thing. You are still getting paid. And you are leaving with a bit of good will. Again, not saying that you should stay for 1 second longer than you have to in a toxic environment. GTFO if you need to. But give you notice if you can.

A good friend of mine left an office job that they had in college. They got an engineering degree. Their boss was the office manager. She left with 2 weeks notice. She was leaving for career reasons, not for personal reasons. So there was no bad blood. She was going into a paid internship.

She went about her internship for a while. Ended up looking for a management position in the company that she was interning at. And who just so happened to be the office manager in the new department where she was applying? The office manager at her old job where she left with 2 weeks notice and on good terms. She was the office manager, not the boss of my friend. But she put in a ton of good words for her with her new boss.

It can be beneficial to leave your bridges intact and un-burned.
