It is not compatible with anarchism imo. The best way to protect yourself as a part of a minority group of any kind is not to segregate yourself with only that group in a state. Nor am I suggesting that the best solution is to mingle fully with the rest of society and hope prejudice eventually dies out and you don’t get hurt before then. The best way to protect yourself is solidarity. As a queer person, if an anarchist movement starts to gain power, I don’t want to be handed a gun and then cordoned off in one city block with the other gays. I want my cishet comrades at my side. I want to be at the side of my Jewish comrades. If force must be used to keep a particular individual or group out of an area for the purpose of ensuring the safety of another group*, why do those groups need to be defined by ethnicity, when they could be defined by who we are as people and the type of society we want to live in?

*Before anyone jumps down my throat, no I do not think the situation I described here is “anarchist” and it obviously would not be a thing under a Global Anarchist Utopia, but anti-Semitism wouldn’t either so let’s make do for now.
