I had myself circumcised today

Yeah... And the Torah only bans drinking cow's milk while eating the cow's baby. That one line means Jews can't mix any meat and dairy. The only reason European Jews can't eat rice over Passover is because of some fear that bread crumbs were in the rice in the medieval era. Kosher wine exist because a bunch of Rabbis decided the Israeli wine industry needed help in the 2nd Century or something. Hasidic Jews insist that Jews must always wear black coats when that has literally no basis in ancient Judaism.

It is nice to know where our current interpretation of circumcision comes from. Jews are good about trying to understand that stuff. The thing is, many traditions don't come from ancient Jews. Instead they are traditions built along the thousands of years we have existed. Traditions don't real change that much, they just get stricter if you follow the most religious sects.

You are not going to convince any Jew that a slight prick is all we need to do because that is what circumcision was in 300 BCE. If most Jews thought that way, there are a lot of traditions we wouldn't have kept or changed.
