Really Failing Math

It’s good to hear that your cousin is happier in the science department but I sadly have a bone to pick with your second statement. The concept that math comes “naturally” to some individuals and not others is a dangerous and destructive idea that has plagued STEM forever. I agree to a certain extent that some core concepts are grasped easier by some people but don’t let this idea hold you back. I’ve failed many math classes and seen others fail even more but don’t ever let that hold you back from your dreams.

There is a reason they changed the name from math to counting in some primary education for this exact reason. I didn’t make this post just to bash MStipey. I made it to break the stigma surrounding math and STEM as a whole no matter what your early experiences are.

This stigma held me back a long time. Like MStipey said, it might not be the time right now but a day will come when it is and don’t hesitate to commit and go for it!
