Accepting a job when it's not your top choice?

Dear ShellLilian... I am sorry too... It seems you want the answers confirmed (?) that already are within yourself instead of getting answers/advice. I see from the other thread here that you seem to be in a very defensive mode when The_lady_is_trouble offered advice - just like you are to me.

You tell me that my answer is condescending - well that is your take on this. Telling me this and telling the other person who also tries to give advice is ....well, why don't you pick the rude adjective and place instead of the dots?

I will not be doing an indefinite fight on words with you for having offered my advice. I will however point out a couple of points where you: a) are seriously mistaken - or - b) have not read what I wrote to you.

A) You asked for how to handle the situation. I wrote: 'My advice is: Take the non-profit job, do your work with passion and think of how much and what you can put on your CV as a result of that.' That was a clear piece of advice! Needless to say that if you get the offer of one of the jobs (that aren't as relevant to my field or as interesting to you, but they are full time and salaried) - well, if that is your choice to go with better salary however no enthusiasm, when you are an engaged human being who could work with something relevant to you...well, you know as I that that is entirely YOUR choice!

B) Since I have worked in the non-profit world for 24 years, I do have knowledge of what it is like to work with passion (for a lower salary) for at cause you believe in. With the example from my own unemployment period, I just offered you an opportunity to see how you can use a short experience positively on your CV afterwards - without showing that you left the job for something else. Excuse me, but I consider that an 'advice' too...

C) Please note that I neither wrote, hinted nor insinuated that you should be an idiot or a 16 yr old person.

D) My entire aim with the discussion of being 'qualified' was to point out that deluding or convincing yourself that you have 'a fair shot' of getting one of the two other jobs just because of your own assessment of your qualifications.

E) Of course I read your original posting! And read: 'The reason is, I've been applying for other jobs...' - so yes, I already knew that when I wrote to you.

Reading examples of your wording like 'screwing up', 'hurting someone' and 'dicking' someone - together with the 'condescending' label you put on my feedback to your problem shows me that you might need some good luck in your endeavors - because your attitude doesn't help you.
