Changing careers

Do what you want don't let anyone tell you what you should or shouldn't do.

I for one love Layer 1-2 work and is something I could see myself doing for a long time. I call myself a "tinkerer" because I just love little devices and gadgets that do amazing things. Servers are a big puzzle of little tiny devices and connections that do amazing things.

Network engineering for me is almost unbearable. I can't sit there and look at routing tables and figure out was needs to be trunked when I would rather be on the DC floor building and tinkering.

DC tech jobs aren't for everyone but if you love tinkering and being a part of something amazing, then go for it. Fuck people who say that menial tasks can't be fun and amazing. It's all about you and your perspective.
